Jessica didn’t set out to write about home decor. She set out to fix up a fairly uninspiring rental flat on a tight budget, and started writing about it mostly to keep track of what she was trying.

Then people started reading it. Then came the questions. And it turned out she had a lot more to say on the subject than she’d originally realized.

That was years ago. Since then she’s written about hundreds of rooms, decorating dilemmas, and styling ideas — and she still finds it genuinely interesting, which probably says everything you need to know about her.

How She Approaches It

Jessica’s instinct with any decorating idea is always the same: but would this actually work?

Not in a magazine spread with professional lighting and furniture that costs more than some people’s monthly rent. In a real home, with real clutter and real constraints and someone who has to live there every day.

That’s the filter she writes through. If she’s covering a bedroom refresh, she’s thinking about the person with one window, a wardrobe that can’t move, and forty-five minutes on a Saturday to do something about it. If she’s writing about color, she’s thinking about what happens when the paint dries and the natural light hits it and it looks nothing like the chip.

She’s honest about what works and what’s mostly just pretty to look at. There’s plenty of aspirational decor content out there — Jessica would rather be the writer who actually helps you get something done.

Jessica covers a wide range: room makeovers, seasonal updates, styling basics, organization ideas, and budget finds worth talking about. She has a particular talent for the less glamorous but genuinely useful stuff — how to make a dark room feel less cave-like, what to do when your furniture doesn’t quite match, how to layer a space so it feels put-together without feeling stiff.

She has strong opinions after years of doing this, but she holds them lightly. Taste is personal, and her job is to give you good options and clear thinking — not to tell you what your home should look like.

A Bit More About Jessica

She lives with her partner, one very opinionated cat, and more houseplants than is probably sensible. Her own home is a work in progress, which she’ll be the first to admit — and which, honestly, keeps her writing grounded. She’s still figuring things out herself, and it shows in the best way.
